hard start and idle rough when cold
Is a first time I come to this forums, I new in here, so
Hello to every body!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a freelander 2003,
i just buy this month ago.
Actually the engine start but idle is rough and comes down. so I have to start the car couple of times, and keep playing with acc. pedal until comes hot, then the car idle run good.
but, if I unplug the maf sensor (when car is cold) idle comes ok.
actually I see a light engine but I belive is because I unpluged the Maf sensor
couple of time to test.
Fuel pressure is about 50 psi
balance valve 1 and
butterfly motors are working ok
(bench test, outside the car)
any ideas?
your help will be apprecied

Tanks Savannah,
Actually I have no codes store in ecm,
I suspect the maf sensor is the problem, I did a read of rover shop manuals(tanks for the link ) and maf sensor is suppost to hot about 200 degree celcius and actually is not get hot at all, and the symptom the car have is similar to the sympom describe on the manual, I will try to find a new on and let you know.

Well, you are partially correct. THE MAF sensor works by heating one spot inside to a high temperature, and compares the resistance of the hot part and a similar part that was not heated, both in the air flow. The delta allows computation of the mass of air flowing by. But you can hold your hand on the case of the sensor and not feel that heat. BTW, if cleaning the sensor, using a spray made for MAF, let truck sit for 8 hours plus, don't turn the key on (it warms up sensor), you don't want cold squirt on hot surface inside which might crack.
