Help - What is this?
I was looking down the side of my 2003 Freelander's engine and pulled this tube out thinking it was the tranny fluid dip stick. It's on the passenger side (US) lower engine. Well as soon as I pulled it out I knew it wasn't. But how do I put it back. Where does it go? I took my phone and took pictures. Took the wheel off to see if I could get a better look. I do not see any hole for this thing. Does anyone know what it is and where it goes? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You might want to page thru the particular parts of the RAVE for your truck. In many other Rovers, a plastic pipe with a 180 degree end is a vent for something like an axle, transfer case, etc. In your case probably the intermediate reduction drive (IRD).

Thanks guys. I found where it attaches with a mirror and a flashlight. It's a small rubber tube way back under the engine. Very hard to maneuver back into position. I put a little soap on the tube and pushed it in. it's some sort of vent. The tube wasn't greasy at all after 110K miles so It probably doesn't vent much.
