I bought a 02 freelander today and cant get the back door open?

Help.

The only thing the rig has wrong with it (that I know of) is that the rear wiper arm is broken off....I can hear the motor running, could that somehow prevent me from opening the door.

Even when I put the window down from the dash panel,,,,,,,,,the back door (tailgate wont open.

 

Shouldn't be the wiper motor. But it does indicate you've got power in the door. Probably the opening mecanism...
