Rear offside passenger door lock problem

Default Rear offside passenger door lock problem
Freelander 2. Can’t open door! Locking mechanism ignores key fob, internal and external handles. But activating key fob simultaneously whilst pulling internal small black lock lever (not main handle lever) succeeds in unlocking it. Any suggestions please as to what is likely to be wrong?

And then after a week, it suddenly started working normally again.....! Presumably something to do with whatever makes the small black lock lever handle pop out on central unlocking?
