I need some help here. I have an 02 freelander when it goes in to 4th gear it revs up high then down shifts back into 3rd. it started as an intermittent problem but now it happens on more of a regular basis. Any help would be great. Thanks

Sounds like a possible solenoid problem. You can get a replacement set on EBay and do the work yourself for a few hundred. But check the tranny fluid level first. Do so by draining it out and measure what you drain. Should be five quarts. If it smells burnt and is brown, replace with new. I use Castrol Transmax import multi vehicle. Amazon has the best price for six quarts. Low fluid level can cause the shifting problem.

No special tools. The fill is a small plug on the top of the metal pan that on the front of the transmission, just below and to the left of the battery. You may have to push some of the hoses to the side to see it. About one half inch in diameter. Black plastic. You can slip a short section of 5/8 inch heater hose over the nipple, and then insert a small funnel into the other end of the hose to fill without spilling.

The fill check is on the bottom, adjacent and to the drivers side of the drain plug. You have to turn this out while the engine is running. I never use the check plug, but instead use the drain into a clean pan, and once it is done dripping, pour it into a clean container to measure. Should be about five quarts. If not, add to get that amount and refill. If it is brown, smells burned, replace with the Castrol Transmax import multi vehicle fluid. Will shift much better.

Every so often Amazon has a deal on a 3 gallon package of Transmax for cheap.
