Question 1990 Auxilary lights won't work???

I just bought my first Range Rover, a July 1990 build, first registered here in Australia May 1991.

I have always owned Pontiacs (still own them), but this Range Rover is so good, I couldn't let it pass. It has been owned by an old friend who did 14,000kilometers in the last 12 years. In total it has done 145000klm, it is absolutely unmarked. Looks like new. So now I'm finding out about English cars!!!!

OK, so a few things were/are not working. All due to simply not being used. For example, the headlights had not been turned on in the last 10 years and the switch was very fiddly, But after pulling it out, some mild CRC and its working again. Wipers were the same. All working now.

PROBLEMS. I have 2
1. The auxilary lights will not operate. I have power to the fuse and the switch works (I pulled it out) but no auxilary lights. I understand you have to have the low beam on before they work. I ran a hot wire to the globes and they are OK. Anyone know the wiring system for these?

2. The owners manual says the interior lights should stay on for about 15 seconds after the front doors are closed. They just go straight out. There must be a time delay switch in the system but anyone know where it might be??

Thanks.

Well, sounds like there might be a problem with the lights connecting to a wire harness somewhere. This is the wonderful Lucas electrical system and although being easy to repair in comparison to newer vehicles, also likes to break and have random issues like this. You have found there is nothing wrong with the switch and the fuse is fine and the lights do in fact turn on when power is applied. The only thing I can think of is to trace the light's power lines back until you find an abnormality. You may want to download the service manual as it might assist you in understanding how the electrical system works.
