I have an 1997 range rover that wont crank. I cleaned connections at starter and checked all fuses. I got it to crank by jumping the hot at the starter but it still would not start. Ran fine until one day it just wouldn't start.

 

Retrac, I just got my 96 back from a local shop. EXACTLY what happened to me. The ECM would not recognize the code from the key. From what I understand, it thought it was being stolen so it put up a block. The shop got me back going for $125. The tow to the shop was more than the fix. No parts needed but he did have the equipment to program the ECM. I came very close to buying a new ECM, but one of the sales guys from a parts catalog suggested this shop. does it come up and say engine disabled on the dash?? does your remote work? can you put the windows up or down by holding the key to the lock or unlock position, in the door lock cyl?

 

had a similar problem but then it had warnings, etc Engine Disabled, and it came out to be the door latch in drivers door, bought it used on Ebay, and put it in, works fine now.
