My Range Rover turned off at a light,it wont crank over help!
Okay heres the problem,I was going to the post office and while waiting at a light,my 1995 range rover 4.0 shut off, I then put it in park and tried to turn it on like normal and the starter tried to crank the engine over, but nothing,i tried again and nothing, the third time i tried, nothing happened, the starter dint not crank or anything,i checked my battery is good,
Lights and radio work great, because i turned on my lights then tried to turn on the engine and the lights did not fade.
So now im stumped because if the engine was running it couldnt be the starter because the starter is only used for starting right?
Other than that i think it might be the alternator, but if it is the alternator should it have killed the battery before the alternator went out?
Please help me out,im stumped!
Could it be the fuel pump? if so what are some of the sysmptom checks i could do to determine that?

Maybe timing belt?? If that broke, it would cause your truck to die completely. It's happened to me before, not on a Rover but on a car I had when I was younger.
theres a port on the fuel rail that a gauge can fit to check for fuel pressure.
thats a good place to start if you have never replaced your fuel pump.

First, he doesn't have a timing belt, but a chain.
Second fuel pressure would not cause the engine to not turn over.
I do question if in fact the battery, alternator or connections are good.
One thing, if the battery voltage is above 13.6 volts, that could cause this would be a failed crank sensor.

i cheked my battery with a voltmeter and it read 12.1 at the terminals with nothing on,could the batter be draged lower when i try to start down to like 11 volts and not even let me crank a little?
Yes the vehicle need more than 12.4 v for a proper crank you should read your voltage when you have the vehicle on postion two or cranking to see the load on the battery. Probable causes if not the batteryare crank sensor, fuel pump.
