Default 2005 Oil filter

Can any one help me? WhenI tried tochange the oil in my range, i romeved the assembly top and oil filter with no problem, but i could not get the oil filter out of the assembly top. There apperars to be something holding the oil filter in the assembly top. This peice fits around the entire lip of the oil filter. below is a picturelooking into the oil filter from the bottom. Also thereis another pick of a round peice connected to the bottom of the oil filter and that did not come with the new filter i bought or could it attach to the new filter.

it pulls straight off, may be tight, but it does. as for it looking different, these filters are known for falling apart, make sure it is all out of the housing. i cant tell what the middle pic is really, they should look the same when the old one is out, if it is a rover filter that you bought.

Don't be shy. Hold the filter with one hand and the filter holder with the other. Pull them apart hard. It's easier then you think.
