RE: 3 buttons above driver door
ok this is pretty funny, after reading this post i went and tried it. I took the garage door opener for the overhead console, above the rear view mirror, and moved it to the area by my head above the seat belt, then took the blank from there and it fit in the place the garage opener was, so anyway the point is someone prolly moved it there. Is there like a plastic blank on the overhead console above the rear view mirror right under the light? it should go there, also when car is running and you push buttons does the red light, light up?
here is how to program your home link
1. Hold the outer two buttons of the home link until the light blinks slowly, release.
2. Hold the button you want to program (on homelink)
3. While holding the homelink button down press and hold the door opener till the light on the home link blinks fast.
4. Repeat 3 on another home link button for multiple doors.

RE: 3 buttons above driver door
The HomeLink on a 1997 might not work on newer garage doors with rolling codes. The HomeLink on my '97 Disco did not. To get it to work you would need to hardwire the garage door opener differntly. HomeLink does work on Land Rovers '98 and newer, however. See http://www.homelink.com/home/global.taf for full details. Good luck
