I just acquired a 99 4.6 se. It is in mint condition. However, can anyone sober me up and tell me what I can expect to pay in annual repairs?

Will this car really be the nightmare I am told it will be?

I have a similar Question. I am looking at a Used 1997 Range Rover that has about 50,000 miles on i and they want $14,000 for it. I am trying to figure out whether to attempt to get a repair warrenty on it or not. Unlike the original poster, this Range Rover has had the the Black Dog Suspension Kit applied and therefore, would not have an EAS Problem. Now what might that do to the equation on Annual Expenses: which could be an option to the above person..

Actually, in this case it is I can afford it; but do I want to is the question.

 

Its all based on several factors. My truck had the EAS converted right before I bought it, but the repair receipts from the original owner showed thousands. I have not had my 1995 for a year, (6mos) but have put about 10,000 miles on it already. So far, it had to be towed because it wouldn't start due to alarm fault, needed new brakes, went through 4 new center wheel caps @ $20 per, needed some small hoses, etc--but if had to spend 1,000 dollars a year on it I'd move it fast--those high estimates seem rediculous. It doesn't need the big repairs every year--a BeCM can last for 5-10 years, once converted the EAS is problem free, etc. You will, however, need to do plenty of work yourself, or those high estimates become accurate.

 

14K seems a bit high for a '97 model... I just picked up a 2001 for only 15K... 60,000 miles and literally in mint condition. The owner who sold it to me told me to expect a good hit of about $1500 every 2-3 years and $500-800 on average. Learn to do the basic stuff and keep up with routine maintenance to avoid the big hit.

Good luck! Even with the repairs (which all cars need), it is a great vehicle and a longterm keeper.

All those prices seem high. I was looking at a 96 RR 4.0L with 114k on it for 6500 dollars. However, I purchased a 99 RR 4.6L HSE with 91000 miles for 10,000 dollars.
