Default Changing out an Expansion Valve

Hey Gang,
I'm trying to work out some AC issues on a 98 RR SE. My next step is swapping out the expansion valve. I checked with a local shop, they wanted 100 to install the valve, 150 to recharge, and 300 for the part. I grabbed a valve from Rock Auto for 19, but they refuse to put my parts in the truck.

I have the Rave CD and it looks like the install is pretty straight forward. Has anyone done this before? I don't have any tools to release the pressure on the system, if I unhook the hoses, I assume that the coolant will escape, and require a recharge, correct?

My plan was to install the valve myself and have the shop recharge the system for me.

Not only will it need new oil and freon, but you will need a vac pump to pull down the system of all air and moisture before recharging it.

Is that part of the routine when they recharge the system? If I swap the valve myself and keep the AC turned off, drive over to the shop and have them recharge it, are we going to be good to go?

150 for a recharge?! I had mine done for 87. I would try a different shop, mine accepts parts that I give them (they do not give any guarantees though).
