the ac is not working in my 97 Disco. the tech said the compressor is fine and that i need a new expansion valve and that it requires removing the dash which will cost a sh*tload in labor.

is there another way to get to the expansion valve without removing the entire dash?

 

See attached pages from RAVE shop manual - probably not, as truck is built around the heater core area. On the bright side, fall will soon be here. And mechanic needs a new 4 wheeler for hunting season.

 

What is the a/c doing?
How much is the part?

 

It's not blowing cold air anymore. the compressor comes on and the techs put freon in it but it still doesn't blow cold. i haven't priced the part but the quote i got from the mechanic was approx $1700 including parts and labor.
