Cheers for that, maybe I should just get them to change them both and see where we are. They are relative low value in the scheme of things I guess. How do they get timing back if has "jumped"?

I would not throw parts at it, but some parts can be diagnosed separately. Jumped time refers to a situation where the timing chain or belt has jumped over a tooth and the valves are no longer in sync with the crankshaft. The mechanic can check to see where piston one is located with repsect to top dead center and compare to spec for the engine.

Of course, it could just be a bad computer (ECU).

Seen a few bmw sourced engines lose one of the timing chains and causing that same problem. Just turn the motor over and open the oil cap. if it moves its good, if not its a new engine.
