Does anyone know if the EAS system just cuts power to the compressor once the psi is reached or does it use another method. I would really like to know because I am tired of the OEM compressor it's slow, expensive, and unreliable.

There is a pressure switch on the valve block that turns the compressor on at 120 psi and off at 150 psi. You can switch to another compressor and many have done so but the stock unit is a rugged pump. The problem is that most out there now are old and tired. I doubt any replacement compressor will last 120,000+ miles. A new OEM compressor is not cheap and your pump may be too used up to rebuild but if you go with a cheaper aftermarket unit you will probably go through a few of them if you hang on to this vehicle.

 

Yes, I also read that the aftermarket pumps are not as hardy that is why I am going with a slightly more expensive, but much tougher pump 100% duty cycle 0-145psi in 2min 45sec.

 

did you check for leaks?

 

The Rover EAS needs to get to 150 psi before the pressure valve shuts off the compressor. Also, is the quoted time to pressure for the internal tank on the compressor or have you figured this out for the system in the Rover? The EAS tank is pretty big.

 

Well I read in the RAVE that the tank is a 3 gallon I believe (dont hold me to that). Also I had to be sure so here is the stats on the new comp.

Rovin4life, yes i did check for leaks, and had them o'ring kit is on the way so is the compressor rebuild kit. I guess I will just rebuild and sell.
