Default Gearbox Fault

Out of nowhere my 1998 RR SE (US version) with 74,900 miles
won't crank (just "clicks") and the message center says "gearbox
fault" and "window not set" and the same messages in German
and/or French.

it will start with a jump, do even after running it for 30+
minutes, it does the same thing when I go to restart it.

HELP!

You do have a dead battery that is causing it to not start as well as the error lights. Put a really good quality battery in your trucl, cause of all the computer drain and then you still may need to go by the dealer to have the cides cleared.
Good luck,
Mike

i took it to the dealer (not a Range Rover dealer) where I got it and they said the same thing--dead battery. They replaced it. What size should it be? It seems to be running fine, though the radio needs a code and the "window not set" fault come on when I start and turn it off. Any thing to do about that? Thanks guys for your help.

If you didn't get the radio code when you purchased the truck, you will need to call the Rover dealer and they can get it from Rover as long as you give them the vin number.
Ask them about resetting the rear windows, if you are nice to them, maybe they will show you other wise you will need to read the owners manual.

To reset the windows you need to press and hold the button to lower them completely, then after they are down you press and hold the button and fully raise them, during the process the message center will beep and say (Window Location) Not set, and once it is fully raised it will say that the window is set, after this process is completed you will have Auto Down on all the windows, and Auto up on the front.

Thanks for the info on resetting the windows...worked perfectly...but I can not get the radio code thing fixed....I got the instructions from someone how had the 98 manual (I have a 99 manual) and the code from the dealer...the problems is I entered the wrong code but I can not submit it or clear it....it seems frozen....is there a way to reset the electrical without out disconnecting the battery?

if it helps anyone, the way to fix this is to hold down the BAND button to clear the code. use the preset buttons to select the numbers of your code, available from Lander Rover. This is weird because the 99 manual says something quite different. anyways. fixed now.
