Default Key Fob still Hundreds of $?

I remember something the last time as was at the stealership about have a key fob replaced costing well over a hundred dollars. Is this really true? Mine still works, but I left it in my pocket and it went through the wash and dryer and now 11 months later the rubber/plastic has dried up cracked and is exposing one of the buttons.

Anyone out there ever have to replace theirs and if so where can you go to get another one or do I have to face the stealership and have them vacuum all my money out of my wallet.

All comments as always are appreciated.

Buy a cheap fob off of Ebay, when it arrives, disassemble both fobs and put your computer chip in the new fob's cover. Problem solved.

depending on the model you can get a valet key for it. For yours you should be able to get the valet key. Plus you can buy the buttons separately but if you don't have a separate remote or key its just plain stupidity on your part. Sorry but not spending the money on an extra key is like throwing your vacation away cause that is what you will be doing when you lose it.

You can order the button cover here: NEW RANGE ROVER 4.0 4.6 REMOTE KEY FOB BUTTON PAD COVER YWC000300 | eBay

You can just pull the old rubber button pad off and press the new one on in its place. New cases can be purchased as well, and you can take the blade out of your old case too and put it in the new one. Getting a valet key from the dealer is usually pretty reasonable, but from what I understand most places can't simply cut a P38's key. And the dealership is the only place that can program it. I found this place that looks a little promising though: Range Rover P38 Key. Might consider shooting them an e-mail.

Hello All,
My key fob is fixed thanks to the talent out there in the forum. The rubber section over the buttons wore away over the buttons only and the remainder just pealed off. Dealer is 4 minutes away so I took it down there and they had plenty of them in stock for $12.00 so I'm back in business! Thanks to all who responded and I hope to all that viewed this post that it saves you time and money down the road.
