Mine didn't start leaking till after I bought it. About a month or two later, after I got the brakes done, I went out the next morning and practically had a puddle of oil and power steering fluid . I have been parking in my garage on a box for months. I am getting the oil pump gasket replaced tomorrow and a new gear box that I bought from Meridian in San Diego.

Scott, Isn't there a dipstick? Mine has one. Did LR eliminate them at some point? Just curious.
There are on the gems management system, but on bosch they decided to get rid of it for some reason...Using the fill plug method has its advantages, it is more accurate and prevents overfilling. However, its not as easy to make a "quick" check.

As far as power steering leaks and groaning...I have had great luck with Lucas power steering additive. I am not a big fan of snake oil normally, but in this case it stopped the leak and the groaning noise.

I second that. The stuff works great. I will be adding it to my Volvo this week. (its already in my Rover)

I just got a new gearbox in my 92 RR Classic LSE. Do you think it would be worth it to put the Lucas in there? I have a bottle in the back of the RR.

I would say just to put in whatever Land Rover says to use. I think the Lucas stuff is more for things that are basically worn out. I have had great luck with it in my power steering pump however I know that the pump has a lot of wear on it. It seems to have a higher viscosity than the standard fluid, thus creating more pressure and reducing the tendency to leak.

Disco 2's do not have a dipstick: you fill and check from a rear-facing plug on the back of the pan. Which, yes, is a pain in the ***.

Is it normally the seal that is leaking?
