Need advice on buying a 1999 RR 4.6 HSE
First of all I'd like to say hello to everyone. I used to own a BMW X5 which I miss terribly but is now considering buying a 1999 Range Rover HSE. Is there anything I should know before buying it? Any known problems? Is it epensive to maintain? And what should I be looking for before making a decision? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, alot of times aftermarket warrentys don't pay for the repairs anyway...read the fine print before purchasing a warranty...you could go to a dealer and buy a certifiied land rover
You can warranty one with 78K (try Carsmith brokers--David), but beware the things that go wrong at 80K+ (EAS, electrical, HVAC) are probably not on any 3rd party warranty. Steer clear of Great Lakes for sure.
George,
Spend some time reading the posts on this site about the common problems and maintenance issues with Rovers for the age/mileage similar to the one you're considering. That's your best bet ...I've given my experience in several posts here in the past and my intent was to inform people new to Rovers. The people on this site fall into a few categories ....1.) the absolute true enthusiasts (people who love Land Rovers no matter what issues their trucks have and typically use them for what they were built for ..i.e. off roading, etc. and can work on them themselves or have the $$ to maintain them as they should be maintained) ...2.) people who love Rovers but are not necessarily enthusiasts but who put up with their quirkiness b/c they love the ride, look, and feel of Land Rovers and can afford their maintenance ...and 3.) people new to Land Rovers who are intrigued by their draw of celebs/royalty/high society but know little to nothing about the trucks themselves and have no clue what they're getting into. Please use your judgement wisely after reading the owners' experiences. If you get one of these trucks, chances are you will love it but may soon realize that they require a lot of attention ....kind of like a very high maintenance girlfriend or wife. Looks good but takes all of your money and drives you nuts.
Yes, you can purchase a warranty for one with 75K miles. Shop around ...there are a small handful of companies that will warranty these trucks with higher miles. Like the other poster stated, read the fine print on what is covered and more importantly, what is not covered. You will likely soon have EAS problems given the mileage. See what the warranties cover on EAS systems. Just an FYI ....everything about Rovers is expensive. If you don't have the $$to maintain them properly and this will beyour mainsource of transportation, youmay want to reconsider your vehicle choice. You may be in for a rude awakening.
