Default Need advise 01 4.6 hse

I just sold my 03 discovery and im looking into the p38 ive found a 2001 with 84000 miles privately owned, doctor owned it and he had it for two years, ever since he owned the truck he had change the air suspension, the car overheated on him once so they rebuild the engine, regular maintainance was done, the engine rebuild was done 11 months ago, now about 5 weeks ago he noticed that there is coolant leaking so he had it towed to the shop and the mechanic told him the water pump went out, the question i have is it possible for the water pump to go like that, should i be worried that the truck overheated again? i just dont want to buy the truck and then put the new pump in and end up i need an engine? any input on the water pump issue is appreciated

Usually around 120k miles the water pump goes out. In this case, it is due to age not mileage. According to the service manual, you are actually supposed to replace the water pump at 100k miles. Its a water pump, you won't need a new engine unless you drive it while coolant is leaking everywhere and the impeller blows up inside causing the engine to overheat and god knows what else. Replace the water pump as a preventive measure, and you should be fine.

its probably due to the fact you need to replace the clips on the door panel - maybe they are not going in or they could be a little stretched??

HUH?

I would check it out after the pump, chances are it is just fine. Sounds like he has maintained it fairly well. The pump will start weeping before it is about to go so it probably did it's job, then he took it in, so I would not expect any damage form it. Good luck on the purchase.
