OEM Keys
Hello, I am recent buyer of a 2006 RR Sport HSE. The dealer didn't have two keys to give me when I bought the car so they gave me a $250 credit for the missing key. Little did I realize that buying a new key from the dealer would cost me close to $500, for the new key, cutting, and programming.
I've seen sales of uncut, used OEM keys on Ebay for about $80 bucks, but the dealers in my area will not touch them unless I can prove they were purchased from the RR dealer.
Any suggestions, or advice on how to get a 2nd key used or not at a reasonable cost.
Thanks

The keys are expensive... and you're just going to have to pull the trigger on this one. There isn't a real alternative since RR controls the cutting of the keys. I thought they were running around $350 for the MKIII keys though? Anyone able to verify?
Well this past Saturday was my lucky day!! I received a call from the dealer where I bought my RR letting me know the previous owner had just dropped off the second key to my RR. I immediately went into the dealer to pickup the key and its in perfect condition. It looks like its never been used and it works perfectly. So I saved myself about $500 bucks.
Remember to everyone, Always have two keys. always. and use both regularly to keep the batteries charged.
I can tell you from experience with my brothers F150 don't wait when you loose the second Key. He lost his key then while I was helping him with some landscaping he lost the second key. We couldn't find it and had to get the vehicle towed to the dealer and get the two keys cut. Oh and we had to fax alot of info to them that we owned the vehicle and the like. Not fun.
oh and seen a few souls lose their keys on the ski slopes.
