Default P38 Range Rover with no key

So, I have just purchased a 1999 Range Rover that was totaled out by the insurance company. The key was lost during the recovery process and I would like to be able to start it to see what works and what doesn't. It is not locked and was not locked when the key was lost. (fell into the water) Is there any way to crank this thing up? I don't mind destroying the ignition lock because without the key, it is pretty useless anyway. I know the p38s have a very complicated security system, but if there is no chip in the key, shouldn't I be able to jump the wires on the ignition switch? Anyone have any experience with this one? Thanks.

have you tried going to a dealer with the title/proof of ownership and asked them to cut you a key using the VIN?

It is a parts vehicle. Not wanting to spend a bunch of money on dealer and towing.

I guess it wouldn't require towing unless I wanted a remote or to test it before leaving the dealership. The dealership is over an hour away, and I really don't want to spend 300 dollars for a key. I guess it is kind of an unusual question, and I was looking for some answers from someone who may have been down the road before. I will see if I can get it started by pulling apart the ignition switch.

drill out the pin for the ignition switch and then yank it out. from there you start it with a screwdriver. its an old ford focus trick.
