Is it TRUE you have to replace the whole STEERING COLUMN to change the darn switch???

 

So there is this way - 2001 Land Rover Range Rover Steering Column Floor Shift (Chicago, Illinois, VLR566756, Average, $207.00 )

and Rock Auto has More Information for STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS US911 for about $32. So if they sell the electrical part of the switch, seems like at least that part could be swapped.

 

take off the steering column covers. put the key in the start position and push the small button on the side of the column and pull out. same as pretty much any ignition cylinder in american cars.

 

Thta makes sense.
Symptoms
1. Thinks the key is IN the ignition so Remote does not work locking the doors and disabling the engine.
2. The HAUNTED locks going up and down where NOT the door locks but my GUESS is the ignition was shorting out and causing the alarm function witch i THINK locks the doors.
If I am close to this being it I will put an ALTERNATE starting system in and can the electronics so the thing can be driven.
