Sea Foam

If you use the Seafoam, expect a bit of white smoke for a while (depending on how much carbon is built up). It SHOULDN'T harm the engine. I prefer using Berryman's Fuel System cleaner. It's a three part kit: 1. throttle body cleaner spray, 2. upper intake cleaner 3. fuel system cleaner.
1. spray directly into throttle body to dizzolve the gunk behind the throttle plate.
2. hook up to a source of vacuum on intake plenum and sucks out of the can with engine running (you'll get huge ammount of smoke but kill all mosquitos within a mile) this cleans the creosote out of the upper plenum and off the back of the intake valves.
3. pour into the fuel tank. This cleans and lubrucates injectors.
I have used this on several high mileage (non rover) vehicles and it works wonders. I have used it on both ECU and non-ECU equipped engines. The only trick is the MAF metered engines and the throttle body spay (you need someone to keep the engine running at RPM).
Occasionally, it tripped a check engine code, but it stayed off once reset.
The kit (in Florida) is about $25.
