Default who knew..?

Apparently this can happen when you wind the winch without putting tension on the cable.

After a day of struggling, a friend set up a block and tackle and we were able to extract the cable. One of the strands broke, but there are plenty left to hold up the doughnut.

This is a very common problem in most vehicles with under mount spare tires. Part of the issue is corrosion/gunk on the cable, but also the cable gets twisted and stuck. If you didn't replace the hoist (if you didn't you will), I hope you lubed the cable very well.

The hoist LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT LR3 LR4 SPARE TIRE WHEEL WINCH MECHANISM LR024145 | eBay is inexpensive and very simple to install. Good Luck!

Thank you for this! I would tell you how much time you saved me but I really can't even begin to guess that.
