Default Structural problem with Range Rover Sport 2013

Hi there

I would like to share the complaint I sent to Land Rover Battersea.

John

I hope you are well.

I am extremely upset with an incident that took place last night which requires your immediate attention. I was returning with my wife and kids from a dinner last night, when on M25 between junction 16 and 17 I heard a loud noise. The vehicle went out of control and drifted from third to second lane, hardly escaped collusion with 2 other cars. The loud noise was due to burst of rear right "metal alloy", see images attached. No visible damage to tyre itself. I called in RAC UK (0800 316 7815) who applied the spare wheel close to the mid-night.

Unfortunately, I am now quite scared to drive it myself and for any other member in my family. I have now lost full faith in the car, not sure what it may do in the future. On this occasion I consider myself fortunate as it was a rear wheel instead of front. Few years ago, my uncle also had a similar situation with front wheel, the car rolled over few times and resulted in him getting 27 stitches and son in coma for 6 months.

Moving forward from this shock, I request for the following:

1. Return and full refund of the price I have paid, over £50k;
2. Collection of vehicle and provision of courtesy vehicle whilst 1 above is in progress, I need this for commuting to work;
3. Credit of £168 and the mileage paid to RAC UK

In an event you are unable to do the above, please provide your response to me formally in writing in the next 7 days. Given the price I have paid and the risk I was put under, I now intend to go the distance all the way. My actions will include but limit to the following:

1. Circulation of pictures and images to print and online media;
2. Circulation/Feedback of event to Land Rover Users forums in the UK and Internationally; and
3. Legal proceedings in the court of law

Please let me know how you wish to proceed.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Did you go to dealer and see what they could do on behalf of Land Rover, if no, you may not have a legal chance as you have to let them right what was wrong. Once you threaten or bypass the warranty commitment you signed upon purchasing, you will now have a longer legal standing.

Hi there

Yes I am talking to them and they are saying they will investigate. What is warranty commitment?

Have not seen anything like this ever. Wheel manufacturing fault. Looks like a week spot in rim. Rover might have these manufactured elsewhere. Keep on dealer to keep you informed. When you buy a vehicle, you get a warranty and you are obligated to let them do their best to remedy the problem. Follow protocol and things will run a lot smoother than trying to sue everybody before they are allowed to remedy the problem. Even the courts will ask if you went thru protocol before even taking a case. Just stay with dealer and keep yourself informed. If dealer cannot due anything in due time then you call a LR rep to oversee case. Wheels break, tires blow, not always a fault of an individual or company, just a flaw that passed the test and went with time. Thankfully you survived this and hopefully you were obeying speeds, etc., as they will access your black box and see what happened.

Also you only gave what a day and a half to respond and you have already resorted to putting it on the internet.

A rim was defective, it will be replaced I'm sure. I think the expectation of a full refund and a loaner car is unreasonable. I could see a full set of replacement rims for piece of mind.

My 2 cents
