The bottom line is there is a restricted flow of ATF somewhere which is making the system not only overheat, but seep out of low pressure areas. It could be your cooler lines or the transmission radiator. It could also be due to old age, it happens (btw, you never did tell us the year or mileage on your rover). It could also be the valve block on the transmission. In either case, you may be looking at a new/rebuild of your transmission, unless you can find where blockage is occurring. You might even consider your torque converter. You are looking at an expensive repair. Wish you the best and hope it works out.

Default p38 transmision problem 1998 model 120,000 mls travelled

Hi , have problem with fluid leaking out of automatic transmission breather and dipstick when driving , any ideas out there to problem ? appreciate any help, thankyou Peter

Default transmit ion over heating

my P38 2001 with less than 100K /Km. has a problem.
when starting the car within 2 or 3 minuts transmition over heat warning light goes on and turns off after 5 to 6 minuts
what should i look for ?
