Valve Cover Gasket Leak

Valve Cover Gasket Leak
My 03 RR (140,000 miles) started jerking while I was driving the other day. This was not long after I got an oil change. I posted on another forum that mentioned it may be a gasket leak and to replace it.
Shop wanted to charge over $1000 to replace gaskets. Have done some research and appears that it it possible to fix myself.
I've heard tightening the bolts may solve the problem. My curiosity is if this will solve the current jerking problem or if a cleaning needs to be done. Will tightening the bolts also take care of the oil that has already leaked through?

1. Tighten gaskets in valve covers with an 8mm 12 point socket. It will have to be 1/4 inch drive, or a "slimmed down" 3/8 drive. Bought mine at Lowe's tool dept. Just snug, don't tighten like it was holding down a rhino At least that is the size on the older engines, yours may vary.
2. Jerking might be accompanied by a check engine light, if so, get codes read and post the numbers back.
3. Check fluids now. Is oil full on the stick? If over full, maybe they drained the transmission but added oil to the engine. It's happened before.....

you probably have leaks other places as well. the gaskets aren't cheap and its possible the leaks are caused by the cylclone separator leaking. you may also have a leak under the intake with a coolant problem. very common on those engines. and no you can't tighten them down.
the jerking is caused by the transmission. Get a bg transmission flush. works every time. If it doesn't work then then it was too late to begin with.
