Range rover 4.0 2001
loosing water to rear of cylinder heads, next to plug lead distributor. Very tight to the bulkhead so difficult to see what is going on. Anyone experienced this problem?

Some experience with similiar problems, different vehicle. Pressure test the cooling system, use the dye that is designed to help locate leaks. it responds to black light. might help trace the source. the vision problem may be helped with the use of a mirrow. I am presuming the leak is not alot of water. I am also presuming that the radiator is loosing water. if it is not then look for the a/c compressor drain and see if it is a hole in the tubes, or an overflow.(clogged drain) I don't know where the freeze plugs are located on your vehicle, it may where you are looking, but dose not sound like it. worth to check it. hope it helps, gotta love a rover. duboff

 

Finally got there.
The leak was fairly copious at 1.5 bar (28psi) and turned out to be coming from the rear left of the lower inlet manifold. This in turn was due to the fact that said manifold was virtually finger tight - what an outrageous lack of QC to leave things that loose. Since replacing the gasket the water loss is zero which it has never been from new (only 10,000 miles). I also found out that I donĀ“t enjoy spannering that V8 engine one little bit!!
