"04 Disco Gas issue
Last week my son ran out of gas in my '04 Disco HSE. I added fuel but now it won't start. The engine turns over but it won't start. I've added a few more gallons of fuel thinking it needed more to register but no luck.
Is there something else I need to be doing or does running out of gas trigger other issues? Any advice would be most welcome.

There is an inertia switch on the firewall that might need to be pressed. There is a schrader valve on the fuel rail to test for fuel pressure with a guage (32 - 34 PSI) (or depress with a rag nearby to see if gas gushes out, a trickle won't be enough). The fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter are all with the pump under the rear cargo area, so getting good fuel to the schrader valve eliminates most of the stuff in the rear. And depending of angle of vejhicle you might need more fuel in the tank.
best thing he can do is make sure the inertia isn't tripped and then put your foot to the floor and start it up. If it still doesn't the fuel pump might be ruined from sucking up all all the leftover crap in the tank.
Doesn't that "sock" filter do anything to keep out the trash? Or does it just get covered with it (like a gunked up oil pickup)? Of course, once the pump runs for anytime while "dry" it is probably toast.
