Default 2000 disco turns over but won't start

After rebuilding the engine, engine turns over but won't start. I do have spark at the plugs. Is there any way to check the timing without taking the timing chain cover off again. Having some back issues so dragging things apart is not something I am looking forward to again.

Seems Rovers are notorious for not starting when the battery terminals are the slightest bit loose. Have you checked those?

as long as you lined up the two marks your timing should be fine, have you checked for fuel pressure at the rail? or tried resetting the inertia switch?
