Default 2004 Discovery head gaskets

Question- we took our 2004 Discovery into the dealer as the engine light came on. Mileage 56,000
The dealer came back and advised the two rear head gaskets were leaking.
Advised it would cost $2500.
The car is 6,000 miles out of warranty (of course)
We see a very small spots less than two 50 cent pieces on the garage
floor. Dealer advised leaking oil and coolent
The check engine light now does not come on, they also advised it needs a 02 senor fault for $275.
We plan to discuss this problem with Land Rover direct. As it does not seem it should have leaking head gaskets at 56,000 miles
Any advise would be welcomed.
Regards
Dick

Don't waste your time talking to Rover.
Go buy a can of Gunk degreaser, spray all the dirty spots on your engine then go to a local do it yourself car wash, power scrub the entire engine as well as the undercarriage then watch it daily for leaks keeping paper under your truck so you can see exactly what is dripping, oil, coolant or tranny fluid.
Get back to us and let us know what your find.
As for the cost, $1400 to $1600 is a fair price thru a small shop, not the dealer.
As for the 02 sensor, if you don't have a check engine light on, how did they determine you had an 02 problem?

If your check engine light comes back on, go to a local parts store and have it read for free. Then psot back on here with the code and we can help. Might post in the Discovery section next time. You will get mire replies there...

Cheers

Don't let the shop replace the v/c gaskets till you check and see if the 2 bolts are loose. They usually are and can sometimes be tightened to stop the leak.
