65 series 2? if it is worth buying
I have ran across a 1965 series 2 that looks like a complete vehicle. the guy want $5000 for it. he says it will run if you put a battery in. it has been laid up for about 15 years so he says. has a hard top on it, gas engine.
So here is the question, should I go look at it or keep looking for a runner.
I am retired and have time to tinker on it. Never worked on a Lnad rover but I do have all the meter tools to tinker.
I would like to hear what you guys think.

So is he asking to much for it if there is no rust. I guess he has had it for a while in storage, and when he laid it up, he drained the gas and put it to sleep.
From the pictures I have seen all it needs is new rubber and brought back to like with new oil, battery, and gas.
What can you tell me about this rig? I have heard that it is very sturdy. foes she take a lot of care or is she as indestructible and it is let on to be?

This is one of the vehicles on My Bucket list to own. just retired and would like to get one if it is not out of my finances to get.
She will need some TLC but hopefully I can do it a little at time.
I am looking for something simple to drive that will take me to the fishing holes and carry a canoe.

They are robust but they are not a 80's toyota pick up.
They need maintenance to continue to be reliable. Generally though the old maintained Landies can be counted on to get you home. The older land rovers are straight forward to work on, no different than any other vehicle of the vintage really. Parts are readily available from various sources and not over the top on cost. Except for body panels and frame/bulkhead
Habitually check/change your fluids, solve the leaks as best you can, replace worn items (remember it's 50 years old)
Keep in mind as well without overdrive top speed will likely be 50-55 mph. That said I have a old 110 V8 and it's a great way to see the outdoors and wouldn't trade it for the world.
If the items I listed are in good shape, it's complete just needing a through refresh on the driving and stopping front that does not seem like a horrible price point. Plus you can always talk folks down when you have cash in your hand.

Provided there's not too much rust on the outriggers and the rear end frame it should be good but I don't what they are worth these days. You will appreciate they ain't ballistic on the road. I had a 2.25 gas engined 2A 1967 and totally rebuilt it ground upwards and it ran like a trooper but painfully slow but very robust. I recall in 1973 I paid £550 but it had had a real hard farm life.
