95 Disco Manual Trans
Yeah it's me again, sorry I had to start another thread but since this is a 95 instead of a 96 I am looking at I thought it might be confusing to some people.
1995 Land Rover Discovery
^^ This is one that I am looking at now, looks in great condition except rip in passenger seat which I couldn't care less about, the part about it needing a little TLC on the Brake Lights Wiring is a bit odd. I called the person and he said it was no big deal and that I'd just have to see it because it's hard to explain..
I was also wondering if their is a huge difference between the power of the 3.9 and the 4.0 engine, this one has the 3.9. Just looking for some thoughts or opinions.

Just another little something...... I have always thought that a Manual clutch was better because it last's longer. This may be my way of thinking because I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL (learned on a tractor
) but is their any proof behind that.

I think the 3.9 was the older injection system and the GEMS control system came in on the later years of the D1. And they called it 4.0. So different sensors to be sure. Attached is a manual on the differences. The engines are both 3.950 liter. The later model is rated 140 kw vs 134 kw, or about 8 HP gain. Nothing to write home about, and these are normally used to drag things to the drag strip, not actually participate. Stop light grand prix against a "show pony" Mustang is futile. And how much you can trust the "ad men" is always part of the issue.
As for life of tranny - manual vs auto, that is more based on the driver, and driving habits. Making milk run delivery stops in a hilly city, vs rolling down the flat highway in a western state wondering if you can go 400 miles to the next gas. I have had 250,000 - 300,000 on auto trans before vehicle sold. But I live in the flat land and like cruise control. Have 250,000 on a Kia van right now, changed fluid once.
I could change a clutch. A ZF transmission rebuild is not a great Saturday afternoon DIY project, although we have some members that do it for a living.
Off road, I can see advantages for the manual.

95 is OBD1 with distributor and stupid easy to work on. I don't see any realdifference in powet between 3.9 & 4.0 but I run oversize tires so that distorys it somewhat. I like my 95 5-speed tons more than my wife's 97 ZF.
