I'm new to the world of Land Rover so bear with me. Bought a 95 Discovery with 123,000 miles a few months ago. Running fine until last week. Turn the key to start but the starter never engages. Battery is good. I can hear the fuel pump prime and some other electrical component engage (from somewhere in the dash) but no cranking. Before Igo any further with my limited knowledge,just wondering if anyone has any ideasand or diagnosis.

When you say the battery never engages, what exactly do you mean, does it click, does it spin but the bendix is not turn the flywheel??

 

I think I said the starter never engages because that is pretty much what happens. Turn the key, hear the fuel pump prime, some other electrical component kicks in (passenger side dash) but no starting/cranking/does not turn over.

 

take starter off and take to auto zone for free bench test!! i bet it is starter!! if engine was turning over and it will not start is when the fun starts but i am sure your starter is bad!!!

 

Try shutting the door, locking it, wait 30 secs, unlock it, and try to turn it over. i had this problem on my 03 in the middle of no where and it worked. i had the exact problem.
