ABS HDC lights
Hello
My first post here! Just got a Disco II with rather high milage (Approx 135K), with the ABS light on. I knew about that problem, so I got it for quite cheap.
The PO said that the problem came up after having the RR brakes and rotors replaced--apparnetly, he wore down the pads to the point where the calipers need replacing? He wasn't sure. He believes that the sensors need replacing on the rear? I'm not enough of a shadetree mechanic to know.
I took the Disco up to the snow this weekend. ABS seems to work fine when front tires are on the patch of snow and I slam on the brakes. However, the rear does not seem to work--the tail end locks up and swings out. So what he said appears to be correct?
In any case, I'm taking the car to a mechanic, but I wanted to be somewhat informed about the situation, so if any of you guys (or gals) can shed some light on this, I 'd really appreciate it. It seems to me that since the front end works, that it should be contained to the rear wheel(s) so it shouldn't cost more thant the value of the car itself to fix?
TIA

For what it is worth, don't just take it to any mechanic, make sure he has lots of Rover experience and he must have a scanner that can read the ABS fault codes.
The fact that the lights are on does not mean big $$$'s, quite often it will be something as symple as dirty brake fluid or a wheel sensor.
