Default Bad Brakes!

Hello,

If you will; I do have a couple of early questions; Just purchased a 1992 Range Rover County.

1) Does anyone know of a good Rover repair shop in Columbia, SC? I think I saw something on the web in Greenville, SC, but that's a good 100+ miles away.

2) The main issue this Rover has is that the brakes barely work. I have to press VERY hard for them to do anything. I did have the vehicle looked at by a local repair shop and he said "Rotors and pads look fine". He suspects it's the ABS Hydraulic module or Electrical module, and oh by the way, they cost $1500... Nuff' said on that. Any ideas if this may be the culprit? Sorry to fire off a tech question straight away but I can't do much until the brakes get sorted.

Thanks and I look forward to owning my Rover!

I am in Columbia as well. There is a local dealership on Jamil Road (Piney Grove Road end) across fom Carmax 803-731-7493. I have a 00 D2. I have not had them fix anything but have bought some parts and gotten info on how to fix stuff from their service dept. Have been very nice to talk to me about mine a hundred or so times. I also had Midas on Knox Abott Drive pull my original front drive shaft out and they were working a Defender 90 with several issues (radiato, water pump, brakes, etc.). They too were nice guys and have some Rover experience.

Spend a few minutes and do a full brake bleed on your truck, apx. 3 pints. This will most likely take care of the problem.
If it were ABS related, you would have some warning lights on so you should be able to rule this out.

Remac,
thanks for the tips. I am justnow figuring out how to check my messages on this site, I was beginning to think I was being ignored, so thanks. Yea, I called the dealership and he seemed pleasant enough, I know their is a team of Rover Mech's up in Greenville, the Blind Squirrel or something but not exactly easy to just pop over to the Upstate. I shall check out your blokes on Knox Abbot drive then too, if they were willing to work on a Defender 90 then hopefully there just crazy enough to look at my 92 Rover.

Thanks again.

Yep bleeding the brakes will help you fix the problem. Also checking the brake lines and pads will help. just my 2 cents.
