Brakes on a '94 D1
I just brought home a gently used
'94 D1, and when I test drove it, I thought the brakes were crap, so that was part of the 'deal' in buying it. According to the dealer, they put new pads on the front, but it didn't need rotors. [:'(] Well, I come from the school of 'new pads need at least turned rotors', but I didn't get that either. Anyway: the brakes still feel mushy andaccording to the tech, "Land Rover brakes will always feel mushy, with a lot of pedal throw and a soft engagement" ... but that sounds like BS to me. [sm=lame.gif] I'm probably halfway down the throw before getting any kind of legitimate engagement;I feel like everytime I need to touch the binders I have to hit them with authority ... so, what happens when I actually do need to hit them authority? eep
Anyway, looking at the rotors, there's a good 1/2" of untouched real estate on there. Are Disco pads generally itty bitty, leaving a lot of free space on the rotor, and if so - is there a decent upgrade? I still think I got shined by the dealer (big surprise) but looking forward-what are my options? Not sure what's going on with the rears just yet ... anything else I should keep my eye on?

What state are you in, in most states you can go back on the dealer because this is a saftey issue.
They could have put on cheap pads, saonds like the rotors are under specs, could also be old burned brake fluid.
You may need to have an independent shop look at them then like I say, go after the dealer.
