Default Broken driver side lock

I have a 1999 LR discovery.

For a while, the driver side lock would get stuck, while locking. Eventually something "snapped" and I could only unlock the car, but not lock it. Then it snapped again and I could not lock or unlock the car.

Now the lock just spins in place when I try it.

I opened the panel to see what was wrong but I couldn't really determine it. In this picture i took off the black circle that is connected to the actuator I think. (The part that auto locks)

Do I need to replace the lock or is there a spring or something that I am missing??

Also, this is this piece or part of the piece I think that broke off.

From the pic you have a discovery 1. Probably just easier to replace the whole handle and swap in your key tumbler.
