Default CB Radio Time

Hoping to get my CB radio installed within the next few days and I wanted to try and get some tips to help me with a successful pain-free install

My list of weapons....(already purchased so don't worry about suggesting brands or anything)

-Midland 1001Z CB Radio
-3' Firestik Antenna
-Clamp Style "Mirror" Mount (it's a semi-truck mirror mount, but it seemed to be the most versatile available on the shelf)
-Spring Base
-18' Antenna Cable

----------------------------

My list of questions...
-Where to mount the radio?...I want the radio/microphone accessible, while on the trail, but also removable or out of the way, when not in use. Dash seems to be the obvious choice, but wanted to do the ceiling, but since the radio is too deep, it interferes with the sunroof buttons.

-Where to mount the antenna?...spare tire mount is what I would prefer, but not sure I have enough antenna cable for that. Any suggestions? I do hit some thick brushy trails, but the spring base allows for a "quick" disconnect if needed.

If you guys have input, specific wiring suggestions, pictures, "do's", "don't's", I would appreciate it! I'd like to do a proper "How-To" for a basic install, but only if I feel confident enough in what I'm going to do and after I've gathered enough information to make it worthwhile.

Antenna cable can be longer without significant drop in performace. Not under seat (might get water - just when you need it). Small unit under dash would be good.

Placement of the antenna is the most important part of a CB radio set up. The cheapest radio will out perform a top line radio when the antenna is placed either on the all steel roof or high on the spare tire carrier.

Do they make connections to add extra length to antenna cables? I already have 18' and can't return it at this point.

I am thinking of mounting the radio on the ceiling directly above the center console, do you think that fiberglass headboard would hold the radio?

Thanks Mike, that is what I have been hearing, I have been thinking about just mounting the antenna to my roof rack to have it high and mighty so I have a good clear connection.
