Man oh man have you had bad luck or what?
Please let us know if cleaning out the gas tank solve the issue.
Kudo's for sticking with it.

Default Sugar sugar

He cleaned out the tank and the fuel filter and put in a new pump.
Off to buy a locking gas cap. New york living can be a big shrug sometimes.
Running great finally. Still blowing smoke though

WORSE than before. Rolled right to garage that had the truck for 2 weeks and groveled.
He couldnt do anything until next day. So I opened the hood and started checking things out. Mechanic saw me and came to help. Turns out at the right side of the MAF the rubber ending of the intake hose was not seated well AND at the plenum there seemed to be a small hole. He reseated the rubber and tightened it back. I wrapped the other end in duct tape et viola. Running great.
This leads me to wonder if the whole time it was only the hose and NOT the MAF.
I was looking online for a replacement hose but can't find one like mine. Its an odd sort of woven and hardened material. Anyone know anything about this?
I found one but its straight rubber. Mine seems to be formed to the shape it needs to be.

SO happy to finally be driving (excepting the $4.50/gal gas)

Thanks All
Steve
Steve I have had the exact problem twice in a 1994 NAS Defender 90 that I bought recently. Once on highway sudden loss of power had to pull over and shut off. After a few minutes restarted and it was fine. Ran great for over a week and just a couple of days ago happened exactly the same way on a back road.

My car is going into the shop for a tune up and some other stuff so what ultimately caused your issue? Was it the MAS itself which is costly or the hose?

Very much appreciate and more details you have.

Thanks - Will

If you read the thread you would have noticed that it was sugar in his gas tank

Ah, I thought I read it all. I missed that. Man that stinks. I can't imagine lightning would strike twice? It is bizarre that mine is doing the exact same thing.

Funny thing is I bought my car in NY. I wonder if there is a connection.
