Default Defender 90 (NAS '97) OBD Codes

Can anyone assist me with OBD codes P1317 & P3999 ?

I believe P1317 means ABS Rough Road Line Low Fault, but my '97 D90 doesn't have ABS.

No idea what P3999 - cant find that code anywhere...

Thanks in advance !

If memory serves the 1317 on a D90 is a tune up issue. like cap rotor plugs and wires time. The p3999 is a code reader fault code. It means it can't read or doesn't understand a code that is in the system

Thanks ArmyRover ! I'm new to OBD codes & I sense I've got a lot to learn. Are OBD codes 'model' or 'manufacturer' specific? And any idea where I can locate a definitive OBD code list to assist w/ the troubleshooting? Since i'm trying to pass CA SMOG, I'm also wondering about the P3999 fault code & how to resolve it....Appreciate your help !
ps - I'm new to the Forum & I posted on General Tech Help. Should I have posted this on the Defender forum for any reason? Thanks!

Here is a link to the OBD manual. Your codes are a bit strange (or I'm not reading the manual correctly). Are you certain is is a 1997?

The other suggestion I'd have is to check out defendersouce.com . This forum is great but that forum is more specific to Defenders.

Appreciate the info WaltNYC. I'll check out the OBD manual & Defender forum. My Defender's definitely a 1997, but your comment makes me question the tech that pulled that OBD codes. Bought my own code reader to confirm readings.

Do you know if P1317 is the same for a Disco as a Defender ?

Your is probably OBD1, yes? I don't know if there was room for manufacturer-specific codes in that spec, but OBDII definitely allows for them. In addition, there are separate sections of the spec for ABS codes.

Pretty sure its OBDII. Has the 16-pin connector & is a 1997 NAS. Thought OBDII was '96 & newer !? CA law doesnt permit Pep Boys, et al, to read the codes so I ordered a scanner arriving today. Should confirm the code readings...THEN I can start sleuthing the problem to pass SMOG.

Thanks for the reply!
