I took my 2003 disco 2 car in yesterday to have it serviced for a check engine light. The mechanic left the key in the ignition while disconnecting the battery. Now my keys no longer work to lock or unlock the door or to set the alarm remotely. He said he did not do anything to the alarm system. Can anyone tell me how to get my remotes to work on my keys again? I think he bypassed something by leaving the key in when he disconnected the battery. I have tried the 3x manually unlocking and locking the door to see if I could get it to reset, but was unsuccessful. I just want to be able to use the remotes on my keys again. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

 

Where are you located? Some parts of the world had a feature called "passive immobilization" or something like that. It makes the alarm behave differently than it does here in North America.

If none of the keys work, I doubt it's anything he did. It could be an issue with the BCU or the alarm receiver above the headliner. It's also possible (but not very common) that the battery being disconnected caused the remote data stored in the BCU to get corrupted, and they might just need to attempt to reprogram the computer to the remotes.

 

Same thing just happened to a local mechanic. I'm going there tomorrow to re code the remotes for him.

He did the head gaskets with the key in the ignition while battery was dis connected.

 

I am located in Texas. Thanks for your help. It sounds like I am going to need to get the keys reprogrammed. Unfortunately, the original mechanic does not have the equipment to do this.

 

Turns out the receiver went out, just happened to coincide with the HG job. I would try buying a receiver and replacing that first as that is a lot cheaper than paying the dealer or an indy mechanic to re code.

There is a different part number for the 03/04 receiver, but I think all D2 receivers work.

Check Paul Grant, he might have one. I just sold my last 03/04 one to the person mentioned in this thread. I might have an earlier model, but cannot 100% confirm its compatible.

 

All of the older part number supersede to the later part number, so I'm guessing they would work, but I cannot be SURE.

Might try disconnecting it and reconnecting it. My 2003 acted like it want bad one day, the BCU could never receive signal from the remotes. It was like that for a couple of month maybe. Then one day I was playing around in the BCU changing some non-alarm related settings and after I disconnected, the remotes started working again. I think maybe the BCU just needed a reboot. (maybe more than just disconnecting, I'm not sure.)
