I recently purchased a 2001 Discovery II. The driver's seatbelt is hanging from the doorpost mount and will not extend at all. It won't retract, either. Can anyone give me DYI advice for dismantling the seatbelt mechanism and any thoughts on what is hanging it up?

Dis you just buy it, from a dealer? That is considered to be a saftey item and should be taken care of prior to being sold.
All you can do is replace the seat belt system.

 

I purchased the vehicle through eBay from a dealer in Philadelphia. He did not disclose that the seatbelt was inoperable. I have not contacted him about the problem yet. I thought would just fix it myself if that was feasible.

Would I have any legal recourse in having the dealer pay for a seatbelt replacement?
