Not a major problem, more a nuisance then anything else, but hope someone else has ran into this and can point me to a solution.

Left rear door lock, and back door haven't worked in about a year. Like I said, nothing more than a nuisance so never bothered to try to fix, but would like to know where to look first.

This site has been great at saving me HUGE $$$ and pointing me in the right direction, wish I could learn enough to give someone else a hand.

When I first got my DIsco II, the right rear electric door lock wouldn't lock or unklock with the fob, or master lock switch on the dash. I got my multimeter ready to start checking power and ground leads, pulled the inner panel off, and found...

...the lock actuator not plugged in.

I plugged it in, and it worked. Too bad not everything is that easy.

 

I am not sure of rules in UK... i am thinking of buying a freelander... it has got only 4 seats but the owner thinks its legal to sit 3 people on the back side... if its illegal wht happens when I am stopped by police?

 

All the modern locks use basicly the same size holes. 2 1/8" through the door and 1" into the edge. The backset for the larger hole is pretty much standard as well. 2 3/8 for residential fixtures and 2 3/4 for commercial sets. Most now are 'convertable' meaning they can be switched from residential backset to commercial backset easily. Look for a bedroom/bathroom knobset in the color you want at the local home improvment store. They can guide you as to what will fit your needs!

 

OOPS, sorry.

2000 Discovery, Left Rear door, and rear hatch/door won't lock or unlock with the remote or from the hardwired switches in the truck.

 

I would probably pull the interior door panels off the offending doors, make sure the lock actuator is plugged in (see my previous post), unplug it, and test with a multimeter to see if it is getting power when locks are activated.

With that vehicle and symptom, you are going to need new latch/actuator assys. Assuming they are plugged in. It's a common problem. ibis1
