Electrical System Went Offline While Driving After Heavy Rains
Hello,
I own a 2017 Land Rover Discovery HSE that we purchased in March. We were just hit by Tropical Storm Debby here in NC and had a lot of rain. When I was driving today, it sounded like water was sloshing in the passenger area. The carpets in the passenger front and rear seats are wet near the door. We definitely had all doors, windows, and the sunroof closed prior to the storm. We found a large amount of water in this “channel” both in the passenger front and rear areas near the door. We shop vacuumed it out and are letting it dry. Any ideas as to where the water could be coming in from?
Could this be what led to the electrical system shutting off when I was driving? I still had control of the vehicle and was able to safely pull over on the highway. But all dials shut off, the dashboard is all black, as well as the screen. We are unable to get into the Land Rover dealership until next Friday. Thank you for any information and help. That rust suggests this wasn't the SUV's first leak. It's a pretty good guess the electrical outage is due to the water and is probably a short. Question is, is it just shorted or is something blown? Could be a lot of things. One common leak area is the front windshield. Water can take unusual paths, so where it ends up is not necessarily near where it came in.
I wasn't much help. But my windshield leak was detected by the dealer when he brought the car to the car wash before I was to pick it up. He noticed a tiny string of water rolling down the inside of the windshield. Fortunately, he had it fixed before the SUV had been in any rain. This is a known issue.
No, you were helpful. I didn’t realize it was a known issue until you mentioned it. Not smart to leave my car outside in a tropical storm. Lesson learned. Hopefully this repair isn’t too expensive. Thank you for your help. I’m glad you were able
to get yours repaired prior to any damage.
