Default Fitting New Valley Pan Gasket

Hi, I'm finishing up a 04 DII head gasket job, fitting the new valley pan gasket. The rave manual says to put sealant on the cylinder head and block notches. I see old sealant on the block notches, but the cylinder head appears to have been a dry fit with the valley pan gasket. Am I making a wrong assumption that the manual means the head mating surface between head and lower intake plenum? What sealant do most folks use and where? advice appreciated. Thanks, Paul

I used grey rtv on just the rubber seals on the ends. That should be all that you need.

I've heard be liberal with the RTV, you don't want to have to re-do everything. Do a search there are others that skimped on the RTV and got the pleasure of pulling everything apart again.
