Default Fuel pump sender unit - DIY Job?

Hello first time user of this site. Seeking help

Is this a DIY job?

Just found out from my dealer that our 2005 LR3 fuel pump 'sender' unit is not working and needs to be replaced. The car just fell out of warranty, figures. The car has less than 47,000 miles we use it as our fun car. Looks like parts and labor will cost about $1,100.

I’ve replaced fuel pumps and other semi big car jobs to save money but is this the type of job your average person can do? I hate to be a penny wise and a pound foolish but if this is a doable job for the weekend then I would like to know.

Do you know if the sending unit is part of the fuel pump?
On most cars it is and the only fix is to replace the whole pump.
Unless they have changed things there is a access panel in the floor of the cargo area.
Roll up the carpet, open the panel and the fuel pump is right there.

if you do the job the tank has to be at empty. For the time to install the thing its not worth trying to do on the ground with the size of the tank.
