Default General Fault, Check Engine, EVERY LIGHT is on.

I have had a reoccurring problem with the electrical system in my '06 RR Sport (supercharged). Randomly, as I'm driving, all of the indicator lights will come on, I'll loose power steering, air conditioning, the emergency lights come on (and won't go off) and the suspension lowers. Each time this happens (its happened 5-6 times), I pull over, turn the car off. It generally won't restart immediately, but after sitting for about 15 minutes, sometimes longer, it restarts with just a few of the indicator lights. I'll continue to turn the car off and restart and ultimately all the lights remain off and the car drives normally.

The Rover repair shop that I normally take it to can't figure it out. Can anyone shed some light on this frustrating problem?

Car: 2006 RR Sport Supercharged. 80,500 miles.

Thank you.
Ted

Hi Ted:

Disclaimer -- NOT a mechanic. However, this sounds like what happened when the alternator went bad on my LR3 at about the same mileage. Is the engine making any strange whirring type noises? This also fits (I think) with the inability to start (problem with charging system?).

can line is going down. You could have a simple wire being grounded against a stud. Seen it on memory seat wiring against the seat frame, wires underneath the vehicle and even inside the vehicle. Its also possible the transfer case module has water in it. Lots of things and they have to be checked out. And trust me, codes don't help. Been down that road. What you have to do is be able to produce the problem. The one nasty one I had was on hard turns but only after a few months of trying. It was intermittent. Afterwards I realized I could shake the wiring and get the problem to occur. Found the issue with a wire out of place in the wiring harness that was installed incorrectly before and it was grounding against a stud.

Appreciate the feedback. I'm heading to the mechanic now to try to recreate the problem. Keep your fingers crossed...

Thanks again.
