I live in Upstate NY. This morning i came out to warm the truck up & it was 2 Degrees not including the windchill. I started the RR to warm it up. Seemed to struggle a little on the start. The car is from Georgia & it is the first winter for it. I had the car running for about 15 minutes before i came back out. The car inside was still freezing. Heat didn't start to blow until i started driving. Is this a normal thing?

 

Welcome to the "north country" as we call it, you should first check the coolant reservoir....most likely cause of no heat circulation @ idle is a low coolant level, make sure it's full and then watch for a possible leak, depending on how low the level is....you may have to bleed the coolant system.

 

you probably have a heater core orings leaking. look under the passenger side cover near the radio and you might see some coolant dripping down from the hoses behind the radio.

or you might have other leaks. get them diagnosed before you blow your vehicle up.

and to help yourself out, add some coolant dye so the shop you send it to can diagnose it quicker.

and if they don't look inside for a leak, don't take it to them. I can't tell you how many independants think they know a rover when they sell every other part but the real problem for a coolant leak. Really funny too after you tell them how quickly you can do the job and how cheap it is. Really pisses them off after they spend three grand for a head job and a timing cover and a water pump.

 

i noticed I had the A/C off button on? It seemed to warm up after this was off. Would this have anything to do with it?

 

I had the same issues and I replaced the Radiator cap and fixed it... Blows smokin hot heat all the time now... Who woulda thunk a 23 dollar part would cause that...
